Business Services Manager
We are looking for a person who is commercially minded to be responsible for the programme management of a range of cross-divisional projects, developing new ideas into sustainable business solutions that deliver operational and cash-releasing benefits to the division and the Council.
This includes the creation of new services and expansion of existing services including commercial waste, pest control, estate cleaning and grounds maintenance, ensuring they are effectively resourced to ensure service delivery.
You will be responsible for managing the council’s commercial waste collection service which operates in a competitive market where businesses can buy the commercial waste collection services from a number of different service providers. It is the council’s intention to provide commercial waste collection services that represent good value for money and are reliable. It will be important to provide first class customer care to promote customer loyalty and long term relationships with businesses in Southwark. Therefore, the person in this role must put the customer at the centre of everything they do.
You will be responsible for managing commercial waste sales staff and back office support staff.
You will liaise closely with the council’s Cleaning Service that will undertake the operational functions required to provide the commercial waste service, arranging for container deliveries to be made and for waste to be collected. This is a relatively new function for the council that will present different problems and challenges every day, you will need to be a flexible, innovative and resourceful person who is able to use your own initiative and taking a solution–based approach to achieve the outcomes expected by commercial waste customers.
You will also liaise closely with the council’s finance team to ensure that commercial waste customer accounts and budget are monitored and managed.
You will be responsible for ensuring that statutory requirements for the Freedom of Information Act, Data Protection Act and General Data Protection Regulations are met.
You will be responsible for ensuring that effective systems are in place for risk management, business continuity and emergency planning for the Environmental Service Division.
The post of Business Development Manager currently sits within the Waste Management Service. The post-holder will be co-located with the Cleaning Service based at Sandgate Street SE15.
